We supported Red Tails!!!!! and I'm disappointed

So I'll make this quick. We went to see the film Red Tails, which is the film which is being endorsed by George Lucas himself that "chronicles" the lives of the Tuskeegee Airmen and all the trials and tribulations that they experienced...well most of them. First I should mention that the audience was as varied as I would love...which is great. Unfortuneately, that was about it. The film was chock full of soooo many cliched ideas: the writing, the acting, the whole 9. Even the special effects were alittle harsh. I mean they were pretty as you'd expect from Lucasfilms however I found the dogfights somewhat boring and one - sided. Never did I feel like things were not goin to work out. The characters themselves were very one dimensional in that they were never really established to a degree where I would care about them as individuals. This part hurt the most because I found that when it was crucial for me to care, I did not. On top of that, there were too many "Tyler Perry moments" where I felt as a black man I should probably be empowered over the "man" but instead I felt alienated and just downright weird. I could go on and on about this thing but I think I got most of my feelings out for now....I guess I'm just upset because this is not the way to go about gaining more notoreity amongst black film makers....so sad...anyways it should be watched just for the support and hopefully things will get better around the corner :)

So let's just say it's been forever since I posted to this or anything really. I guess I ve been working to improve who I am as an individual in order to improve myself as an artist. Anyways, It's been quite an adventure and as a testament to the new year, I plan to approach this whole lifestyle as an artist alot differently. I guess I never realized how much the two are intertwined but it's great and a much welcomed addition to my knowledge. I've said I was goin to update this before but I guess that never really worked out so after much thought my new years resolution shall be to make sure that I update regularly all the things that I'm doing...It's going to be a great year. I can feel it...WOO!

Sometimes i forget just how much out of practice one can get but here's a painting I did for this contest over at sketchaholics.....it's about a brother who's deceased brother comes back to read him bedtime stories at night. Next up, perhaps Ill do the capcom unity contest....I'm not sure though but we'll see heehee.

My little sister is great. I love it that she likes manga, anime....hell all the things I do. I was even more proud when she embarked on her mission to play chrono trigger. However it seems like everytime I let her play a myriad of questions arise. She constantly needs help. All I wanted was to take a nap and that wasn't happening while she tried to play Chrono Trigger...oh well...maybe it'll be better when she's older

This looks to be quite amazing. The colors are lush and rich, the characters, though somewhat reminiscent of previous films, still have alot of charm and appeal to them. What I can gather from the story so far, it looks to be very fantastical and kinda reminds me of the fraggle rock for some reason without that dog getting in the way lol. Looks to be alot of fun.
Something else I wanna see, oddly enough, is Megamind.

At first, I was rather sceptical but it seems like it could be very funny. As Jeffrey Katzenburg put it, they make movies for the adult in the child. Seems so in this one. Could very well be one of the only movies that I want to go see that has Will Ferrel too lol.

...more of the same stuff.....I have to again say I did alot of drawings that didn't make it to this....alot of the patients got word of my stuff and wanted stuff for their kids and whatever and me being the kind self conscious guy I am I didn't think I should charge for the drawings....I just had a ton of fun despite having to use crayons and dry markers....made me be more conscious of what I was drawing as well as provided a much needed challenge...so yea enough of my babbling...enjoy while I go work on some animation stuff hehe

So I was alittle behind on this one.....for those of you who know I just got out of the hospital dealing with some rather personal stuff....but anywho I was allowed to draw with crayons and half dry markers so I turned out a few things...I mean there was more but between giving everyone drawings and throwing them away or deeming them not worthy of posting here anyways....so this is the first of some I thought I kinda liked.... hpe you guys dig alittle and follow me on my progress because I will get better

there is a guy that is spraypainting some stuff.......that was my attempt at t shirt design.....I admire people that can come up with really cool designs for shirts....as for the two birds.....that was the illustration I created for my fiancee and me for our save the dates......I thought it was tough but I think they didn't come out that bad.....everything else is just doodles Ive been doing.....I m finding that animation has made me not draw as much....I do alot of often useless thumbnails but for the most part I dont draw as much.....that is all going to change soon for sure.

I found this awesome website ....it contains tons of notes that this guy named Jason Smith has collected from various working animators.....very informative stuff..... my favorites so far being a glimpse into Jeff Gabor's workflow and a a video from someone who I can't think of right now, where he explains how he brainstorms for animation using a technique called mindmapping. Anyways there is a ton of great stuff like a reposting of Brandon Body's in depth analysis of birds in flight and their body mechanics.....I want to be that good one day....nuff said.

well....Ive been away for quite some time huh? It feels as though I'd lost touch with what was most important thanks to my all too favorite disease. Anywho pretty soon I'll have some new meds and hopefully be back to the old productive me...I have been drawing and animating but I can't help that something is holding me back. Anyways today, my blog will take a turn for a better and I will make it a point to post something new everyday so that I can get back to old me....kind of like a nice rehabilitation of art. So grab all of your friends, hide the kids...this is a declaration of war on my bipolar anti-art bla bla!!

oh and I wanted to post some other things that I found inspirational as well....maybe you guys who read this will too

well after some careful deliberation I ve decided to post this tomy blog...... I really need to figure out what's going on in my head. It feels like self consciousness issues but I'm not sure. I look at this one minute and I do feel somewhat proud of what I could do on my first blue pencil, but at the same time I feel helpless watching my classmates pass me by skill-wise. All I can ever think about is becoming a better artist, but I feel as though there is something that's holding me back. I'm not sure maybe in a sense, I'm not trying hard enough which would be strange. Anyways enough babling, I'm off to do some more work on something and not be so stressed hehe.

Sooo...its been awhile....a loooooong while....but Ive decided to follow the rest and post some of the stuff Ive been doing. Two of the images are my 'unfinished' Digital form final. I say unfinished because the files were two big to render at the end of class, though I did get a b for my efforts. I did some ambient occlusion passes on the files though, which i seem to love for some reason, and here we are. I have to say looking back at them they arent all that bad, but I wish I had the cobblestone street there , so you guys will have to imagine. Also try to imagine the lights on the spaceship because they are there lol. As for the gun, that was alittle project today to keep me modeling some stuff. Right now Im trying to lock down a character to hold it, as I m trying to think about my senior final, but not so much that I get distracted from the 'big picture'. But yea its a pretty cool gun I think though it could be a better render but I just love ambient occlusion so much lol.. So hopefully I'll keep posting regularly and I can stay busy working on projects the summer. Anyways Ciao all!

Ok. So I originally posted this on deviantart but no one really seemed to like it. I ll admit it could be better. But It just seems unfair that some works get more views than others. I can understand something like a blog being neglected but not on a social website designed to expose one's work. I simply do not have the time to "scratch someone's back" so that they scratch mine. In other words, I cannot spend all morning commenting on all of the work it takes to get exposure to my work. Oh well, I realized today after going back into my box o' artwork that my imagination became stale recently and I;m not sure why. The drawings I did before had substance where as now It feels rushed.....wait...I think I'm rushing life away lol. Soooooooo now that I realize that, I'm going to make a conscience effort to do the best work I can do....which unfortuneately I dont think I've done recently.
anyways Im frustrated by the antics of deviantart and although theer are alot of talented artists there they are being neglected in favor of lesser beings haha...if you are a member you'll understand what I mean and that I'm not bashing anyone's work. Im hurt.....anywho this is my take on a Mario Party, complete with poker...although I didnt think that they drank...it still has to be rated E

OK whenever you travel a long distance, you tend to have a GPS to help you on your journey,(at least my tech savvy generation haha. So upon using the now defunct Magellan guide, it came to my attention that the voice was a woman. Now my imagination wouldn't let a woman be named Magellan, so I came up with a new name for her - Maggie Lan. Now, I was wondering who was Maggie? Why would someone choose to live their lives inside a box to give directions? What would life be like to work for GPS? I decided to create a character for Maggie, when she first started and this is more or less, what I came up with. Alittle different from the original but I figured I could use this character for something in the future so who knows. It may take further itirations before I can be sure this is the ideal Maggie but for now it'll have to do lol.

So I finally got around to finishing this little acrylic painting although Ill probably go back in on the face....but on the bright side it's somewhere I can leave it for right now...to be honest i started it alooong time ago , likke maybe in march or april so it's been along time coming. As for the pencils, those were done sometime ago as well, probably around december of last year! But I liked this one alot and I figured I'd have to post it to my blog, seemed only fitting Id add something more for me and others to see hehe

So I have been busy. I bought some more art supplies for the trip so I should be ready to produce some great things over the next few weeks. I should be animating but I dont know if itts a good idea, but we will see next quarter how much not animating is going to affect me. Sooooo , I've gotten the idea that I need to steadily upload new work everyday, regardless of how crappy it is in hopes that I can see my progress from somewhere other than just my two-four eyes lol. Well it's the end of Scad for the quarter woohoo, which for me means a long break to do more art work or nothing at all, which at this point is not an option. So anyway this is the final I did for my Screeen Design class and boy did it take alot of time away from me. Anywho it's cool because it';s something i worked really hard on and I think it shows for the most part. I was trying to get a paper feel with things that I mean in illustrator which wasn't as hard as I thought but getting it all to work in after effects was probably the hardest part. There was a time in my life when i was content with just producing "lineart". But now that I'm getting to be a bit wiser for my age at least, I m starting to notice that color is what makes life interesting. Sure I'm not really interested in imitating life too closely, however, lately since I've taken my color theory class I've been seeing everything in a different light. I'm finding the best works in my eyes, are in color or at least using a bit of chiaroscuro.....I'm finding I guess what makes being an artist so great....sure I could ramble about all of this, but I'm sure all artists come to this at some point in their lives....I'm just glad I'm starting to realize it now before I get too old to accept change....which by my point is around 20 or so years to go lol. Anywho this whole "going to artschool" thing is the greatest thing to have ever happened to me, and I'm glad Im taking this step because in the end I'll be that much closer to achieving my dream of working at my top three animation studios HOORay!!!!

i figured id post this seperate simply because id never used a sumi brush and the marks I made with it were truly so cool that I hung this on my wall lol.....I dont feel its very technical but I like it regardless...kinda gave me an idea for a character, a very raw samurai who moves like the ink flows...sounds interesting hehe maybe a senior project when i get around to that. I also decided to post a couple of other things I did lately..one was for drawing class the other one was just to see if I could do that particular style..didnt come out too bad i suppose

It's not that I'm not constantly doodling....its just that I never seem to get around to posting the work I've done....so in a sense I am lazy. But on the bright side, I have to admit Im enjoying branching out into other artstyles. Yes, I want to be an animator, but I want to be able to be versatile...there are too many things out there worth seeing and painting...I'll admit my eyes are still opening and crusty as I'm just waking up with this but school is helping alot with it. these were experiments with pastels....the cartoony one was a watercolor/pastel which i guess didnt turn out too bad.

Something new in everyday life

This is my first art post on a blog so I'm kinda nervous. No one may notice it but then again someone might. It seems like alot of what I believed about artists in the industry of animation and games and such, was that they only did dinosaurs and cartoons and ninjas, nothing more. But an artist, regardless of their discipline learns to appreciate art in all forms. I feel that's what makes a great artist. Regardless of whether or not I live to become a great artist, or even recognized as having talent, enough talent to work in the field of animation, I will always enjoy doodling and drawing things of all types..Art is fun, art is love, art is that last chip in your favorite brand, or that cute girl you later marry.....its alot of things and sorry if its too philosophical but i figured it sounded great that way. So begins the postings of my soul.
